JORDAN VAN SEWELL
Ceramic and Clay Sculpture Artist

Jordan has been working as a studio artist for over 30 years and has among other honors, recently received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal and is Artist of Distinction for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He is President of Heritage Winnipeg and Chair of South Pointe Douglas resident’s committee. To quote Jordan: “It’s one thing to create fun and wondrous clay sculptures. It’s another to shape a world where art has significance and meaning. My work is cut out for me.”

The Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dog Program

We will be introduced to the Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dog programs. Included is the organization and governance of the Lions Foundation of Canada, programs offered to Canadians who have problems including sight, hearing, seizures, physical disabilities, autism and diabetes. The dog training and puppy breeding program and fostering program will also be explained to us.

‘For Elise’

History, and our interpretation of it, is constantly changing. In For Elise, the established story of one pioneering family’s battle to survive has been reviewed from the perspective of a rarely considered woman. Oriole has used the diaries written by her great-grandfather and other contemporary sources, to give us the tale from the point of view of Elise, her neglected great-grandmother, who contributed so much to the success of the family’s venture.

In 2005 Jean became Executive Director of the Philippine Canadian Center of Manitoba and was also the Founder and Director of the Philippine Folk Dance Ensemble. Winnipeg’s Selkirk Avenue:Where Community Life is Flourishing Again.


Eleanor will speak about the revitalization of Selkirk Avenue in Winnipeg’s North End. In the 70’s and 80’s, however, the neighbourhood experienced devastating decline. The presentation will focus on the renewal that has been taking place on Selkirk Avenue in recent years with particular emphasis on the Urban Circle Training Centre. Since Urban Circle’s inception in 1990, hundreds of Aboriginal men and women have graduated with certified training and are employed in many fields.
